UPS B2B Mobile Operations App EU Initiative

The Problem

Use case 1: UPS delivery and scanning for operations in Europe did not have a mobile device that had both the ability to scan packages and an itinerary feature where users could link packages to the itinerary and deliver to route.

Use case 2: There was NO APPLICATION providing routing for drivers. Drivers were using their own devices to find routes, sometimes not able to find because it was extremely rural.

MY ROLE

As Sr. UX UI Designer, I needed to drive both the research and design in a fast paced, more ambiguious environment. We resulted in building a robust application, that had combined both scanning, itinerary and routing feature.

  • I designed a brand new mobile device that incorporated scanning + delivery routing feature we were able to increase business revenue and users time and efficiency by 50%!!

  • I created an entire design system from the ground up

  • I designed a new routing view cutting delivery in time by 50%

  • We used scanning technology to scan packages and download them to drivers itinerary increasing user time and efficiency by 45%

  • Designed a 2-Way Messaging service to help drivers and operations managers communicate during deliveries to help manage operations. Increasing operations time and efficiency by over 50%.

  • Developed a one framework with both scanning, delivery and routing increased business revenue by over 40%.

Field Research

There was some research done in the EU as a point of reference. . We were able to use the findings as a leverage point.

Reviewing Legacy + Pilot

Reviewed the existing pilot to be able to drive some of the user requirements and get with management responsible for the business requirements and user needs to discuss needs.

User Flow Process

Working with management and product owners to design from the top down. Overall we worked on 2 main features for the application. Scan 2 Car + Itinerary.

Previously users had to use multiple devices for scanning, delivering packages!

Scan to Car Feature

Users had the ability to now scan and manage packages based on the package details.

Package Details

Each package had specific details and dimensions. I created iconography for each package detail including (and more).

Routing

User NOW had the ability to review routes and swipe to access routing feature. Feature they did not have prior and helped increase users time, efficiency and business revenue.

Delivering stops

Users had the ability to click on the route and deliver and edit the route details if needed.

They also were able to change route location. Very helpful as sometimes the routes were not exact and we were collecting data for future routing.

Notifications

Users had specific stop notifications where they were able to take action right away to ensure stop would be completed correctly.
In this use case you see COD.

2-Way Messaging

We also created a 2 way messaging service. This allowed users to quickly and efficiently communicate to managers any challenges during their route. This allowed a more streamlined routing process and increased users and operational efficiency.
